George Cruikshank (Born London, 27 September 1792, Died 1 February 1878) was a pictorial satirist, cartoonist and illustrator and the elder brother of Robert Cruikshank, also a noted illustrator.
Both his father Isaac Cruikshank and his brother Robert were cartoonists. At first George worked for the stage, creating theatre advertisments and set designs, but he was approached by a publisher to begin making sketches for children's books and illustrations for song sheets, which led him to work as an illustrator of books and magazines.
